FAYE ROBERTS

Painting

“In my art, I like to capture the beauty of the natural world. I am heavily inspired by rust and decaying objects; the peeling paint and textures of these objects. My intention is to show these elements through my love of vibrant colours. I am fascinated with the journeys that take place surrounding decay, how these objects alter and transform and correspond with the change in their environment. I am constantly stopping and taking images of rusty objects while on my own journeys, this idea of ‘journeys’ is one that is performed throughout my paintings. There are so many different stages, trial and error, that are experimented with while I am painting. I never really know how the outcome is going to look, I love to keep my work exciting, loose brushstrokes, vibrant colours and abstract. I like to leave my paintings looking almost unfinished, I do not want to get to a stage where I feel as if I have over worked it. I like creating washes and spraying the canvas with water so the paint cracks and drips, I let the materials naturally work to create a ‘flow’ throughout my paintings”.
